Work in Progress...

I am thinking of doing some different stuff on this one. Open to any suggestions. As you can see I fashioned a cart out of some salvaged shelving and, yup, more bed rails (I love those things). Still sticking to the concept of keeping it cheap and using what is around and easily attainable for anybody. One thing I am thinking about is trying a different style of intake regulation.

Anyway, just wanted to post a teaser and see if anyone had any interesting suggestions.

Edit: Sorry for the bad pic. Stupid phone camera. I didnt realize how bad it was until the photo posted.

Default UDS does its thing on Chicken Wings Again!!!!

Cooked 120 lbs. of chicken wings this weekend at a "Chicken Wing Cookoff". Won People's Choice Award!!
People said that was the best wing they had ever eaten!

Had to explain how the drums "work" at least 50 times during the event!

Sadly I do have a shopping cart around in the garage that I obtained at some point. However, its a bit narrow for the drum. Good startign point though.

hello everyone.
I have been reading this thread far about a month, and finally attempted a UDS build. I reall appreciate all the info that has been shared on this site. The Drum is finished and just needs a coat of paint. all in all thigs came out well. I have been spending some time fine tuning, and learning its quirks. ill poast some picks when painted. I used a cheep lows grill for the lid. No webbers to be found on CL. not perfect, but not bad for a first attempt. By far the most important lesson i learned is that a big hot fire in the drum (burn out the liner) can result in a big fast response from the fire department! weed burners are defentally the way to go. Thanks again for all the input. the flavor of the food is incredable.

Just had 4 open top barrels delivered last night. 2 lined and 2 unlined. Got them all for $30 with delivery. Can't wait to start the build this weekend.

Anybody come up with cheap alternatives or materials for grates? I know you could use expanded metal and fashion your own grates but by the time you purchase the metal its more than what a Weber replacement grate would be. Just looking for ideas if anyone has gone down this path.

I guess you could steal a grocery cart and cut it up

or cut up some old clothes hangers and weave some grates...

Man, you can buy a Weber replacement grate for under $20 bones...to me, trying to fab something for less and without the effort just dont add up.
