Tonight I tossed an oven thermometer in my 075. Found out that the digital thermometer is spot on. The new Brinkman dial thermometer in the door is off about 40 degrees. Is it just bad or can I calibrate it?

The guy I buy my coffee from in the mornings showed me the other day how he calibrates his thermometers for pulling shots and so forth.
Here's what I learned: 1) You have to have a reference to do any good. 2) Heat (or cool) your reference to a known value you want to calibrate to. 3) Check the dial, scale or whatever to compare to your reference. Say, if you heat your oven to 300F and your meat thermometer in the oven says 285F, let your thermometer cool completely off and then loosen the set screw for the face and rotate the face to add 15 degrees. Reset the set screw. Of course this isn't TOTALLY accurate, just like speedometers, errors in temperature follow a bell curve with smaller drift at either end of the extremes they are to measure. BUT 4) That should get you pretty close. For what it's worth . . . /Brother Dave
