This past winter was so cold for so long I had to burn ALL of my cherry stock (nearly a face-cord) for heat. Wtfark! My entire stash is gone.

[Hijack alert]

I had a little guy like that when I was in college 20 years ago. I took it with me one evening when I was romancing a young lady and was going to grill up dinner when we were out in nature. When we got to our destination, I realized that I had cleaned the grate earlier that day and forgotten to put it back into the grill. And by this point we were good and hungry.

Not to be dissuaded, I cut and peeled some green sticks from a nearby tree and skewered the marinated meat I had brought and suspended it over the charcoal by laying my newly-made skewers across the grill the short way. I was cooking hot and fast, and the meat cooked enough before the sticks burned.

Turns out she was duly impressed.

Almost! But the reason I didn't had nothing to do with my cooking skills.
