it seems like all probes are garbage.
They are definitely the weak link in the systems. Unfortunately for improvement, you'd be asking the mfgr's to give up the only reason you're going to have for spending more $$ with them after your initial purchase. Bet that doesn't happen.
When you buy a digital therm, you need to understand the probes are not lifetime items and will need periodic replacement. That's why I value my collection of analog leave in's. I've never had to replace a battery or probe on one yet.

I think I need to order one of those for my hillbilly brother. He retires this month and will need something to keep him busy.

Also got a super fast Thermapen for father's Day. It's great also. I use it all the time in the kitchen also.

Got the same setup (base and three wireless units) for christmas and was playing with them tonight. I can't wait to take them for a test run!

One question, though. How often do y'all have to change the batteries since you can't turn them off? I was planning to using these for exclusive competitions but it's a pain getting to the batteries.

Yeah, that would be the most logical. Kind of weird they don't have a shut off, plus the fact that they have 4 little screws on the battery plate making it a pain to take them in and out. Oh well. Beyond that, they seem very nice.
