I did it solely for appearance after seeing a picture of another cooker that Shirley had built. I'm not aware that it affects performance in any way, good or bad.

Am doing 4-5 pork butts and ~200 pieces of chicken for a graduation party this weekend. Can't wait to fill 'er up!
