Default Temp control on reverse flow trailer pit

I've seen some folks mention that they manage temps across the pit by either raising or lowering the front of their RF trailer pit. I assume that raising the front of the pit would "trap" more heat on that side of the pit but just wanted to see what sort of techniques people use here.

Otherwise just keep the pit perfectly level, right?

You can mess with the level of the pit to adjust the temperature on different spots on the racks, but unless you're mapping those temperatures and have a specific need for a variation in temperature, you really should just keep it level and manage your fire and dampers for temperature adjustment. We do keep our nose up just a hair, but we do competition and we need temperature variations across the grates for cooking all four meats on the same smoker. If we're doing just one kind of meat, then we keep her perfectly level. If you're really curious on how it affects your pit, I would suggest getting a probe like a maverick and do some temperature mapping.

I start at level and will raise or lower for some different temp zones. Raise the nose, higher temp away from firebox, lower the nose cooler temp away from fire box. Just a little high on the nose the bg will level temp almost all the way across.

When you say raise the nose, I'm not sure which end you fire box is on. My fire box is up front(nose end).

I just slightly elevate the front on my Lang to where grease still drips out of the drain. I regulate the pit by the temp gauge closest to the firebox and never look at the other one. Never really had any issues that I can think of.

Draft is the most critical thing in getting even temps with any offset and even more so with a RF design.
In my mind it would be a good idea to keep the pit level so that you aren't forcing airflow to go up hill once it enters the pit through the intake dampers, which would then slow it down as it rounds the corner to head toward the exhaust. Remember that unlike a regular offset, the airflow is making two trips across the pit before exiting instead of just one and the more efficiently it does that the better off you'll be in keeping temps where you want them and the smoke clean!
