The probe connectors are silver and the temp jumps while everything is stationary which leads me to believe it is an issue with your temperature sampling code and connectivity within the unit.
Did you find out what was wrong? I think I have a similar problem.

How long does jump last.
I find temp. jump lasting only one second in some sets.
You can simply ignore the jump.
Certainly if the swing lasts minutes, it would be a big problem

When it works, it seems fine. But if I lift it, sometimes it varies by quite a bit, and sometimes only one probe seems to be working. I will try it more over the weekend and see what happens. At the moment it is sitting on the table and seems stable.

It is due to bad contact.
0.1 OHM resistant value change will result in a few degrees swing.
Due to strong sturdy and waterproof construction of leading wire of probe, any movement will effect contact of plug and jack and in turn resistant value and shown temp.
I do not think it will effect its use in BBQ.
Usually the wGrill shall be put beside your smoker instead of in your hands

Add smoothing logic in software, no more sudden jump now.

In old version, the temp. jumps suddenly for 1 second.
I do not think it will effect your real use.
But in the temp. graph you will find a peak.
Now by adding a smoothing logic in software, the peak is eliminated

It has been a while since my last post on this equipment. I have learned the following;
1) once the probes are placed do not touch them as temps will bounce. They even bounce when it is still.
2) never had success with getting it on the network. If some one would be kind enough to outline the specific steps I would appreciate it.
3) for now I use it as a digital thermometer for various spots within the pit. I do not use it for measuring meat temp.
4) the probe construction is great, nice and sturdy.

A: It is partial due to the connector on probe. we are using new connector now.
Also a smoothing program is added. Random bounce is reduced greatly

2) never had success with getting it on the network. If some one would be kind enough to outline the specific steps I would appreciate it.
A: Communicate between smart phone and wGrill shall be very easy.
In this sense it is same as Thermo Duo or iGrill

Access wGrill to your home network shall be easy too
Access wGrill to Internet needs certain knowledge of I.T.
It is more related to your local network environmental, you Router and Your computer.
Other buyers had published their I.P. address for you guys to check.

3) We are developing a Plug & Play model. It will be very easy to link to Internet. But you need to pay $12 per year for hosting fee. It is expected to be ready in June.

In new design we also add sensors of temp. humidity, barometer, water on floor or in soil, sound of existing alarm devices. You can monitor your vocation house, your green house, your wine storage, your aquarium, warehouse remotely.
Also I am thinking to add an emergency alarm call. You will wear a "waist watch". the watch is indeed a RF wireless transmitter. On emergency, as long as you have 1 or 2 seconds reaction time, you push a button on the watch. the watch will activate the wGrill and send out alarm signal. the wGrill will sound aloud too. If you touch the emergency button by mistake, you will hear the loud sound and you can cancel it by press 2 buttons on your watch. the watch is on standby status usually. a small button battery is big enough to work 1 to 3 seconds.

Having played around with it for a little bit I would focus on:

- Easier connection to the local network. I havent tried this yet and don't see it being an issue for me, but looking at the directions I can see how a lot of people would have problems.

- A simple app for smartphones/tablets. Displays the current temps of the probes and lets you set high and low limits. If the limits are broken, your phone/tablet will alarm you.

When I found Williams-Sonoma smart thermometer sold at ebay @ $55, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Williams-Son...item4ad3dd5364
I decided to give up wGrill

Then I find another price of $199 @
http://www.williams-sonoma.com/produ...t-thermometer/

I am really puzzled

The first one is an auction.

That one seems more for Kitchen applications as well.
