County Grill and Smokehouse, Hampton VA
I had time for a quick bite and on a recommendation, popped in for a sandwich. I was a bit surprised as it was quite a nice restaurant. It was a sit-down, get comfy sort of place with lots of people eating business lunches, a small office party etc. The interior is cozy.
I ordered the Pitmaster sandwich that included brisket and pork It came with two sides. The warm potato salad was fabulous and the sandwich was quite good also, although I had no idea how to eat it. I ended up forking-and-knifing it. The brisket was smoked 15 hours. It was juicy and good, but still had a fair bit of pullback -- I couldn't help but think maybe it needed 16 hours . The seasoning was subtle -- the waitress told me she actually prefers the pulled pork so she can use the BBQ sauces. There were a number of different sauces. I found them to be adequate, but most were generic (and I expect quite well used). One of the sauces had a unique tomatoey flavor with a bit of bite. Overall, from my one sample, the food was quite good, the best BBQ I've had in the area to date and I will return for another sampling... maybe for lunch today.
