Default Upkeep on grill grates

What kind do you have and how do you keep them clean and not rust?

I usually only have cast iron grates and I clean them while they are hot after a cook and then add a little oil to them before I shut it down.. It seems like they will rust after my wife gets a hold of the grill and doesn't clean it. Now I have a OTG and it didn't come with cast grates.

A little pricey, but well worth the investment, including the CI inserts for veggies and flat griddle.
