First time at a KCBS event and with the exception of my chicken which smoked to a lovely shade of gray
I'm fairly happy with what I produced. Then there was the rain. The record setting, torrential, cold, relentless rain. I am beyond surprised I don't have pneumonia from the temperature changes and sleep deprivation i put my body through.
.....but it was all worth it.
First of all what a great event they put on up there in Clarence. Everyone was so helpful and George was ever present to answer my noob questions. I didn't bring any sides for my EZ-up and one of the Brethren saw this and offered up his extra. Tried a delicious concoction called apple pie another member offered up (which greased the wheels and started me down a path that would end up in me falling asleep upright in my lawn chair for an unspecific amount of time). Our neighbors Chuck&Dad and Keith from KC and the Smokeshack Band were just fantastic people. Met some guys from Blackstrap that were A+ human beings as well. My father commented on how unbelievably helpful and supportive the other teams were to each other and I couldn't agree more. If only people in general treated each other like the teams at the event did, this world would be a much better place. I would gladly share a freezing, rain-soaked field with any of them again and fully intend to do so next year. See you at the Roc!!!
