Default Lengthened uds

I'm thinking about another UDS that is lengthened with a welded on extra 1/3 barrel section so I can use the 2 rack set-up without a weber lid. I'm looking to use the actual barrel lid with the metal tightening band and spring latch. Also I have a choice of 2 lids one with screw out bung holes, or a solid top; I would need to cut out the exhaust but the exhaust could be placed in the middle of the lid instead of on the side. Please give your feed back about these design ideas.

I just finished a tall drum pit but it is two pieces. Cut a barrel to a third for the firebox and the top barrel stacks on top, sealed with nomex gasket. I'm going to post it soon as I finish a couple small details. It has a door to access the fire also. I have done a dry run and every thing is sealed perfectly.

Check out barrel n8man uses. I believe it is what you described.

did a quick search and came up with a pic of it. He added 1/3 of a barrel. This thread is about what he did with the left over 2/3's, but a pic is in there:

I used a deer feeder funnel as the top to a UDS I built for a friend. Worked beautifully. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures. :(
