It's like golf, since I started with a right-hand set, I couldn't use a left-handed set if I tried.

The official response from ThermoWorks.

Quote:
Why don't you have a left-handed Thermapen?
Interesting question. My wife Suzette is left-handed and she's always thought the opposite. She prefers to use her dominant hand to wield the roasting pan, grasp the food with tongs, stir, or whatever else she's doing in combination with the one-handed temperature measurement. Thus, in her opinion, it's best to hold the Thermapen in her right hand while she uses her dominant hand for the other tasks.
Don't buy that? While the Thermapen isn't quite as ambidextrously switchable as a screwdriver or a hammer, it's pretty close. It can easily be gripped in a number of ways. I hold my Thermapen in both my left hand and right hand depending on what I'm doing. Still I empathize with anybody who's left-handed and wishes the Thermapen were reversed. So, if our engineers can ever figure out a no-cost way to do that in the next Thermapen, we'll consider doing it. Meanwhile, switch-hit.

That a great answer. Nice and polite, very diplomatic, a little funny.

Not 100% sure about Randy's advice to "switch hit" though....

They could do it pretty cheap if they could make them open up about 20-30 degrees more and have the screen flip based on the direction that is up. Basically add a small gyroscope to it and then have the display face up based on the direction.

I use the Mini TC from Thermoworks. It takes any K style probe and they have plenty to choose from, even ones that have a screwdriver type handle and a long cord. It's super fast, does have a hold button,... and the needle probe in the photo can temp delicate things like shrimp or come in from the side of a burger. The best thing is the brain is around $40, so if it craps out (which mine has not) you just buy another brain and use your old probes. Probes vary in cost.

I never thought I'd care, as I'm mostly left handed, partly righthanded and somewhat ambidextrous. However, I am constantly annoyed by the fact that whilst gripping a pan or a piece of meat in my right (stronger, yet non dominant) hand and trying to read the T-pen in my left I need to contort myself. I agree with the larger opening angle and gyro based orientation of the display, but I think that might get expensive. I think another display on the other side would be cheaper and more effective. Or a talking thermapen.
