Good Smoke and Slogies are on fire!

and poor Buffalo Meatheads...check the scores. Had brisket been on time (I assume is what led to their brisket score), and in the top 20, the comp would've been theirs. That suuuuuuucks!

They were DQ'd for a reported small piece of foil stuck to a burnt end. We were also kicked from the top 5 for juice in our brisket box (all 1's on appearance). The explanation we got was horrible and the questions I asked were not answered. What we got for answers were a lot of shrugged shoulders and "I don't know"

The entire contest was poorly run from top to bottom sad to say. No power half of Friday, spaces no where near the 26x20 that was paid for, had to go and get and pay for our ice, (some delivered $3/bag day 2 fifteen minutes before chicken turn in ). Add all that in to a contest that was many teams last shot at the Jack and the state championship wrapping up as well and you have TWO teams finish out of the top 5 with one denied the grand championship because of judges calls??? That is a joke.

Grab a score sheet from someone if you can..........the judges at table 6 should be ashamed of themselves and if any of them are reading this do me a favor........next time you are gonna pull something so stupid like DQ my box for my brisket being too juicy..........don't eat it.........send it back OK, I have no desire to feed you an amazing wagyu dinner I spent 12 hours cooking. I would sooner feed it to my dogs.

Congrats to all that walked and good smoke for another butt kicking. Great competition and awesome people at every cook site as usual.

Crossing this one off the yearly rotation.

We at team Smokin' Ain't Easy had a great time. This was our first time competing at Smokin' Eagles and we will be back.

Sure there was some chaos Friday during set up time, but nothing major. We ended up with a great spot with some shade and a view of the canal.

There was a Walgreens, a Consumers beverage and a Tops supermarket all within a block or 2, plenty of resources if you needed something.

It does sound like the brisket judging was a bit off, 2 top 10 teams handing in chopped because it was too tender, but that's the way competition BBQ seems to be, you never know what to expect out of those 6 fine individuals that get your box.

Atlasman, did they show you a picture of what they were talking about?

Yes, unfortunately that made it worse. The pic was my box with no meat yet full of garnish with the garnish pulled back a couple inches in the front corner so the juice could be seen "pooling" when the box was tipped to that corner.

When we were shown the box in person it had about 75% of the garnish removed and still had to be tilted to get about a teaspoon full of juice to accumulate in the corner.

The three questions I asked were "Who pulled our garnish back from the corner for the photo (no one supposed to touch garnish). "Who removed all the garnish from our box between the photo and when we saw it??? "Was EVERY box at EVERY table submitted to the same scrutiny???

The answers we got were just a repeated "I don't know"

I have no problem with rules.........as long as everyone has to play by them. Again, table 6 should not only be ashamed of their scores but they should be held accountable for them as well. Not sure if they were old school grumpy and jaded or cooks themselves who feel they can always do better but they had more scores in the bottom third then probably any other two tables combined. Hell, they scored someone's brisket lower then mine and I got all 1's in appearance. We were the number one ranked pork dish from table 6 and we took SEVENTH overall. Of course as lousy luck and poor organization came together our food landed on table 6 twice. Other teams that had the same misfortune got killed as well.

No communication from the people running the contest beforehand, all kinds of info missing from the cooks packet, money not returned for cancelled events, no power half of day one, spaces WAY smaller then what was paid for and being charged for ice by someone delivering it to your cook site 15 minutes before first turn in just screams amateur hour to me.

Dealing with all that (on top of the judging) and getting 3 top 10 calls only to walk out of there with $100..........LOL, barely paid for my brisket which was wasted on clueless judges.

It costs me at least $600-$800 to do a contest, maybe more. I can't see dumping that kind of money for such little return at this contest again.

Looking at the full score sheet now I see what you're talking about with table 6. WTF is that all about???
