Default BGE Dual Function Metal Top Stuck on Lid

The Dual Function Metal Top on my large Big Green Egg is stuck on the lid. I can't get it off... it's like it's glued on. Can anyone tell me a successful way to get it loose? I figured taking a hammer to it was a bad idea.

Lightly tap from the inside?
I assume zero responsibility for this suggestion.

(unless it works)

Is this before or after lighting up the BGE?

If it is before, start a fire up and see if it comes loose. It could be some grease build up on it.

Just guessing here, but if you heat the cast iron with a torch it should expand enough to get it off.

Edit: Be sure to heat it evenly or it may crack. You might try firing the egg up as aawa says and crank it up to 500 degrees or so first to see if that works.

Have you tried calling BGE Customer Service? That's where I would start. If they steer you wrong, and you break something, it seems like they would owe you some new parts.

For triple the cost of a Weber, I figure their customer service should be three times better. They should be able to give you a solution.
