Default My 1st Build took 8 months

I have completed my 1st ground up build. I did have some help along the way. Borrowed a lot of ideas from the internet. This is what I came up with. She cooks like a dream!
Main chamber is 24"x60"x.375 new steel pipe.
Fire box is 24'x24"x.375 steel pipe encased within 3/16" steel box. Fire box is insulated with 2" ceramic 2500 deg insulation wrapped around 24" pipe and encased.
Fire box door is 1/2" with a 1" insulated encased ring.
Trailer is 60" wide x 10' long.
24"x24" stainless steel prep table.
I can get 9 hours+ out of a 20lb bag of charcoal (5) 4" x4" wood chunks. She will sit at 225 to 235 for that amount of time then drops to around 200. I have not really documented past this.

Well, it takes a while to build a farking STARSHIP! Nice job, I like your tube-in-a-box insulated firebox, very innovative! Can't wait to see it cook.
PS: do you have a baffle or tuning plates to distribute the heat?

Teamfour. I mainly cook with charcoal and mesquite chunks. I usually don't cook with full sticks and sticks only because of the strong flavor of mesquite.
Smokerking, yes, chicken thighs, babyback ribs, prime rib, whole chicken, and brisket. not all at once.
I had an old country ts 24x104, but wanted a more efficient cooker.

dwfisk, I will post some more pictures of it tomorrow. It is a kind of a jambo copy. I have never seen one in person, so I did what I could from the internet research. I the heat is defected up but I had to make some fire box inlet modifications from his design because of temperature problems the first two trial runs.

I seriously think you screwed up in several places just from what I can see. Very shoddy work. I am disappointed at your failure to be honest.

In the spirit of the brethren, I have decided that I want you to have the BEST cooker possible, so you should start over and build a new one from scratch.

Meanwhile, to further show there are no hard feelings, I will send you the address at which to deliver this eyesore so you don't have to dwell on it........



Amazing job. Absolutely amazing. I made a sheet metal box without a lid in metal shop about 30 years ago. Think I should try one too?

Not having any experience with this sort of rig I can't comment on the functional design but I have wondered if guys tend to crack welds in the counterweights on the doors and the flue mount area just because of the leverage and length and road vibrations. Looks awesome!
