Default Would a couple of these work for a charcoal basket?

For my uds? Is 12 inches tall enough to hold coals for a long burn?

It might, but there is no info about what gauge it is. I would go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a 12x24 piece of expanded metal.

Should work out for you. My basket is 12 in tall and diameter of about 10 inches. Plus, I have the bottom of my basket 3 in above the ground to give air flow. It will hold enough charcoal to let my UDS cruise at 225 for 13+ hours.

This is the material I used for my basket. I used a 5 gallon bucket as a template to bend around. I used steel pop rivets to fasten it together. 12" high with the floor of the basket 3" up from the bottom. For $9 you can make a couple of them. The thicker gauge stuff is much more expensive.

Info said 18.0 gauge so very doable. I can be made with do welds, just bolts, washers and maybe some heavy wire.
I can only give credence in facts I believe factual. If those facts are wrong, and are proven as such by facts, I must only give those facts credence, if I believe them as factual.

my uds basket is made out of one of those. Cut it in half lenghwise, so you have two 6" x 24" strips. Mount them in a circle pattern to the grill grate bottom. I think my grate was 15.25" in diameter or so? 48" of material overlaps a bit to shore it up nicely. I used bailing wire to attach all the pieces of my basket. It works fine.

Even with a shallow 6" basket, my UDS would cruise 12-14 hours pretty easy.
