If you enjoy sitting in the shade with a good book and a cooler full of brewskies and managing a "Small Hot Fire" your a Stick burner type. If you want to go off and mow the yard take care of the honeydo list and whatever else your a WSM type. All this said if you learn to cook on a stick burner it will make you a better cook over all with the ability master any pit. also note the best tasting BBQ comes off stick burners cooking will all wood.

I agree with the blue one above, and I AM a hard-core stick burner fool. That said, I'd still probably recommend the WSM on quality measure. WSM is a quality piece of equipment. I've never seen an Old Country smoker, but at $500 it's going to be tough to find a really good stick burner type, IMHO; usually you're looking at about $1000 for a small one...

WSM.

Started competing in chili cookoffs back in the 1990's and have competed in more than I care to count. I became a CBJ in MiM in 2005, then MBN and in GBA in 2010. I've probably judged 130+- BBQ comps (sanctioned and unsanctioned) over this time. That said, I really enjoy competing more than I enjoy judging, and hope to get back to doing 4 or 5 a year in the near future.

Ok will vote for something off list - build a UDS, and use the saved money for a BBQ Guru or a Stoker.

Get the WSM and convince your SO that it requires constant monitoring and enjoy your brewskies without worrying about the smoker!

Why don't you make a UDS? Even a quality build will be less than 150$. Save the extra money to buy yourself some meat! That way you can invite me over and feed me.

You have to be careful when getting advice from this forum; lots of people claim to know what they are talking about, but you don't know who these people REALLY are. You CAN, however trust me. Get the WSM.

No one on a forum can advise you what to buy without being swayed by opinion. Only YOU, can decide your own fate, grasshopper!

Yes it can by removing the barrel and setting a grill over the coal base.
