Default Interesting MOD for WSM

Fellow Brethren I was cruising the internet looking for WSM mods and stumbled across this interesting one. Even I had to wonder why I would do it to my beloved WSM but after an hour I just kept thinking to myself I may have to take one of my old WSM units and look into it. Not sure if I will but kind of a neat concept to say the least. If this has been discussed before my apologies, but I did not see anything when I searched for it So MODS feel free to removed if I am posting something that has been here before. Thanks!

Can't say that it excites me. I wanted a charcoal smoker so I bought a Weber. I think if I wanted a pellet burner, I'd buy one. It would surprise me if a pellet burner adaptation to a charcoal smoker would work as well as a smoker designed from the ground up to use pellets.

That complete hopper assembly for the DIY'ers looks very interesting...

No interest here either. I would have purchased an FEC if I wanted a pellet smoker. In the article I don't know why the guy had such trouble controlling temps in his WSM. I can lock mine in with no problem.

I wouldn't modify a WSM in the first place because it's already designed very well. But I can see running across a thrift store find of some kind of steel cabinet that the hopper assembly could turn into a smoker...

Interesting concept. There is a pellet adapter for a Weber Kettle available commercially. I wonder it that would fit a WSM?

But, I think you guys are right. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And the WSM ain't broke.

What I find interesting is that Bad 2 da Bone now owns a BBQ Restaurant in Kenosha, WI. I haven't been there but I have heard from a friend that it is good.

It looks like it would cost around $400 to convert a WSM to pellet, and you can buy a new Traeger for under $500, so why would you want to do it?

In my never ending and costly passion for bbq, I went through a phase with a fascination on pellet smokers, thus I still have a Traeger. I always dreamed of having a vertical one because very few people make a vertical one, and they are expensive. I have one of these pellet hopper assemblies in the backroom here just waiting on an ingenius cabinet to try it in. I prefer the charcoal myself, but dangit I like to tinker and can't leave well enough alone.
