Default Stick Smoker with firebox in cooking area?

I met a guy today at a local store who said he builds large stick smokers with the firebox contained inside the cooking area in the center of one side just below the cooking grate. I could see it working cause it's insulated but taking up needed cooking area. Anybody ever heard of, seen, or used this kind of setup?

I was wondering the same thing WRT this smoker I saw on CL.

I cannot spot any firebox in the picture though it could be at the opposite end of the trailer from the stacks. Or maybe there's a propane connection I can't see. Or maybe the fire is meant to be built right in the cooking chamber.

Nor do I know if it is a custom build or a commercial model.
