Default SS Performer with Gas Assist

Do the SS Performers with gas assist have a push button? If so, could someone post a picture of the button? I'm thinking of moving on a red SS performer without gas assist, but I'm not sure if I should hold out and keep searching CL for a good deal on a Performer with the gas assist. I don't have a huge issue waiting for a chimney to get hot, but if I can cut some time off of getting things rolling I won't mind either. Any input would be appreciated.

I have one with gas assist and one without. I use the weed burner to light both of them.

I have both. The G.A. is a PITA after a couple years. They do have a button ignition, that quits working and you have to replace it.They are nice when new but not worth the trouble to me,especially after I bought the big weed burner.

I have 2 propane assist's & typically use the assist to light a Weber chimney filled with paper for grilling, then turn them off. That said, if I'm going to cook butts/brisket & using the fuse type method for 250*+- it's pretty handy to use it to light 6-8 briquettes, etc. I don't have a weed burner though, so that might be the way to go. My propane assists have held up & worked well, except in really wet weather, under cover or not.

I use the gas assist and a chimney. Two of my three SS performers have gas. Gas starter is worth the wait. It does save time.

I'm w/ mbshop on this...get it! Then buy a weedburner. Since I bought mine last summer, I've never used the gas assist or had to crumble newspaper for a chimney for any of my kettles.

I have one with the gas assist and the gas just ran out after two years. A plumbers torch on the charcoal for a 90 second count works just as well.

I have the gas assist and like it when it works. Right now I think I need a new burner which is just a little less than $30 with shipping. After I bought it, it cost me about $40 to replace the valve/recertify and fill the the 5 lb tank. (And it was $17 for $5 lb of propane! Ace will do it for $6 - should have gone there!) All this for a $50 SS black performer.

If red is important, get the one w/out gas assist. If gas assist is important, be prepared to wait (and pay.)
