Default Mini and Midi UDS question

I have found a source for brand new 16gal and a 30gal drum for my mini and midi uds project, my question is what size air intake nipples will be best( i did a search and never really found anything on this, then again my search fu may be bad) would three 1/2" nipples work on either one? or should i go 3/4" and then how many 2 or 3? Thanks

Go for the real deal and forget the ball valves.

I asked similar questions a while back - here's a link to the responses I received:

Is your source local to you, or are you having them shipped? Would love to get another 15 gallon drum, but they are tough to come by...

I'm in the process of building a 30 and a 55 and I'm going to use 3/4" on both. two caps and one ball valve on each drum. Most drums that I have seen built no matter what size have had at least 3/4".

Default Mini and Midi UDS question

I have 3/4 on my 55 and my 30 and would not change a thing.

I'm in the process of building a 16 gallon UDS (my second one). I'm installing a very simple slider vent with a single 2" diameter vent hole underneath the drum since a similar mod to my ECB worked so well and temp control very responsive.

If you want to be able to do hotter cooks in the 350 range, I'd suggest opting for larger ball valve. You can always close it down a bit, but if you don't have large enough holes, it will be difficult to power down so to speak.

Personally, if I was gonna put a ball valve on a UDS of any size, it would be minimum 3/4", but I'd rather have it larger.
