Default WSM Owner, Need Help

I keep my WSM outside, always covered. I use the flower pot mod, so I use no water when smoking. Here is my problem. When I am not using my smoker very often, I get mold all over the inside of the smoker. In the summer, I just rinse it off with the hose or power washer, but today its 20 degrees out and that was not an option.

Anyone have advice on how to keep out the mold.

Are you leaving the vents open? I always leave mine open top and bottom when covered to allow some airflow through the smoker.

I have had that happen once too...i pressured washed mine. But yeah i think having the vents closed with a cover on it is what helps the mold build up. I dont know if its from food particles left behind or what. I agree with leaving all vents open when being stored and if i have time i leave the lid off til i put it away for the next use

Are you using the oem cover that comes with the WSM? If so, vents open like Smoking West mentioned + put a heavy duty garbage bag over the wsm first then put on the cover. Stock cover is not water tight.

All vents were open, but I did not have the extra trash bag on there, I do use that from time to time. So if I use the extra trash bag and make it waterproof, should I close everything up or leave vents open?

Vents open, top and bottom. Trash bag so you wont get water in the smoker. If you still get mold, fark it, fire it up.

When you store your WSM outside with the stock cover, put the center section on the charcoal bowl upside down and then put the dome on, leaving all the vents open. This will prevent any water from getting into the WSM. (when the center section is in it's intended orientation water can easily get inside of the WSM.)

Scrape the grates and cook it off. No worries.
