G2 Party Versus FEC
I smuggled a little something over the border into Canada last week in a nondescript wooden crate
Little did the Authorities know what they were letting into the country. A new weapon for the ever growing (don't tell the wife!) arsenal A big Thanks to smokinit for putting up with my endless questions and for helping me out with some last minute paperwork to bring it across. While I was able to make time to season it I didn't have a chance to cook on it until this weekend. I decided to do a little test between my old stand by an FEC 100 and the new hotness. I picked up a couple of butts Injected and seasoned as I would for a comp Decided to load up the charcoal basket with a fuse as I've seen on here using a couple of fire bricks There aren't much better sights to see when you first go outside in the morning And here we have the final results, Backwoods on the left, FEC on the right I must I was impressed with how well it kept temp and the flavor and texture of the food. There was little to no difference between the two butts. In my opinion the FEC produced a slightly superior product but I believe that's more due to the fact that I know how to use it properly while I still have a lot to learn about my new backwoods. As an example here's the chart for the cook from the awesome pitpal app That temp spike is due to the fact that I ran out of water around 6am, not because the water pan isn't big enough, I just didn't fill it with enough water. Also I was aiming for 225 but overshot because I let too many coals catch at the beginning and the cooker is so well insulated that it just doesn't cool off. It behaves very much like a ceramic cooker in that respect, you need to catch it on the way up. All in all I love my new backwoods. Thanks again smokinit!

Nice comparison and cooker. I would Ditch the water and cut back on your intake 50 deg before the setpoint from a cold start. It will use alot less fuel and give a better bark. I didn't like the water in my vault. Did you have a water pan in the fec directly above the firepot?
