So I modified the basket to attempt to get the charcoal to follow a C pattern. After an hour into the cook it already jumped the barrier.
![]() I guess I should not have used lump. The Maverick is showing 279 at Grill level. Probably need a solid barrier.

Try replacing that expanded for the center barrier with sheetmetal. I made something like that for a refrigerator smoker once and it worked pretty good.

What ^ he said, or attach the sheet metal right to the barrier so the heat does not ignite the other side.
