I am looking at having AZ BBQ make a custom Santa Maria Style Grill with the ability to smoke. I inquired to David the owner about what I was looking to build and the pictures are a build he is doing now that I am designing around.
It's a Santa Maria Style grill that will incorporate a back and a lid. The lid can be removed by simply lifting if off. This exposes the back and grill. Which can be cooked on letting he back act as a wind break. Or the back can be removed leaving the firebox. The argentine grate will elevate inside the grill. It will have a fire box across the back full length of the fire box. This will promote even heat. The heat will travel below a plate then up and over the cooking surface. I think it will be a excellent grill and / or smoker. It comes either 48 in x 24 in or 36 in x 24 in. I do not plan on having that large of a banner across the top so there will be plentey of room. Looking at 3/16 in material and custom high temp paint job, probably Kentucky Blue for tailgating. I’m looking for input before I order one and / or fly out to purcashe one this year. |

Rick that's a good looking unit. Really like the removable lid option. Looking forward to seeing what you get.

Jeanie, Thanks. I found AZ BBQ doing some research on BBQ Brethren a month ago and have been talking with the owner Dave who seems like a great guy plus he served our country. I need to make a trip out west anyway. PS. Should have listened to you and taken it easy for a little while. Over did it and paid last week. Getting a little better everyday but not near full sprrd. Finally got a PG500 seasoned and plan to cook on it this weekend. Hope all is well out your way Rick |

Klose makes a similar unit. It would save you some freight.
