Default smoker build question

I'm turning an old upright food warmer into a charcoal smoker (hopefully)... I was curious if the pit size calculator spreadsheet would work the same for a vertical smoker as well? It's set up for horizontal style now so would exhaust pipe size need to change, firebox opening etc...? Just curious before I start cutting and welding. Thanks guys!

Got me a diffuser plate made to separate the firebox from the cook chamber. Just installed the stove gasket around the bottom and got some heat going on it to cure. Anybody know how to figure what size exhaust and intake I would need for this build?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1359841366.394611.jpg

I don't know but I am anxious to see how this build turns out. Good luck!
