I have a redneck buddy making me a charcoal basket for my drum smoker. The first one he made was out of galvanized expanded steel. I cannot user that can I?

Here's one thing to consider...... It takes a relatively small piece of expanded metal to make a charcoal basket. The steel shop cut mine for me and it was only about 8 dollars with tax. 3/4 x 9ga., 9" x 60". I used a charcoal grate from a 22.5" weber kettle for the bottom. So I only needed expanded metal for the sides of the basket. At that price why take the chance with a galvanized piece? I think it would be worth it for the peace of mind.
