Default Now this is an old grill - late 1700s

My wife and I went to the Luray Valley Museum today in Luray, VA. They had on display a cooking grill from the late 1700s.

Pretty sure it is period correct. I talked to the curator for a while about the entire collection. This museum is incredible. It rivals some of the pre and post civil war collection at the Smithsonian. If you are in the area, check it out.

That's awesome! They used to broil (we call it grilling) and barbecue food on those. That was the time when people knew the difference between roasting, broiling, and barbecuing. It was many times referred to by the old timers as a "gridiron."

They also had a collection of 19th century cast iron stoves. This would make a cool smoker.
