P.S. It turned out to be a nice surprise. The box came and I was racking my brain trying to remember what I ordered. Opened the box and went "Oh, that's right!"
I did the same thing

Just put them on top of your hot coals and let it go.

Yes, I also kick or shake the grate to get some fresh coals to drop.

It is not going to ignite like regular wood, it will burn slowly.

It is a long lasting smoke with nice flavor, gives butts a great mahogany color.

I just put it in the ash pan. I knock the grate to get some ash on it. I checked every once in a while to see how it was doing. Work real nice.

Can't wait to try these in my stumps. They worked GREAT in both the Backwoods and WSM.

I kept forgetting them at my office, they've made it to my house now, so I plan on using them as soon as possible. I'll definitely post results when I have them.

I used one of them in my offset with a charcoal basket two weeks ago. I used the whole brick. It burned very evenly and retained its shape - never fell apart over the 9 hour cook. It did impart a cherry smoke to the pork, but didn't quite put out the flavor of real cherry wood chunks. I would definitely use it again IF I didn't have real wood.

I've used the maple on my comp ribs. First time I did, I got my first call/walk and we took our first GC. I use the mini cubes.

Had the opportunity to meet Fred at the Royal this year and I bought a pack of oak with pecan essence. Used some last night on some ribeyes and got great smoke flavor. I'd definitely recommend them.
