I'm tailgating the final preseason game at Lambeau Field next Thursday. I've always been the chef when tailgating, usually doing venison steaks or brats. This year I've got no venison and I'm getting sick of brats. Anyone got a good BBQ idea that I can do to feed 8-9 guys in the 3 hours we have from the parking lot open til kickoff? I was thinking chicken thighs in a nice rub but thought I'd get some ideas from the experts on here.
Thanks |

My suggestion is to skip the game, drive to Minneapolis, and tailgate before the Vikings game this Friday. In all seriousness, I've been thinking about smoking little fatties and putting them in sesame hoagie buns for this Friday.

Fatties, MOINK balls, Atomic Buffalo Turds all fit into your 3 hour cook time window.

Looking like a gorgeous night Thursday for that game. We need to get our first stringers rolling soon too. Should be a great night.
I was thinking smoked chix wings and ABTs. Fajitas would be pretty sweet too. Good luck!

ABT's for sure! You can prep them ahead of time. Make at least 100 if there's beer there! GO PACK GO!7!

I agree with Smokgineer....First step....go tailgate for a real team :) Chicken thighs are always good. Of get a few whole chickens, smoke them and pull them for sandwiches. And throw on some ABT's and/or moinks.

I do the Packer game every year and cook for 16. Past menues have included: Pulled Pork, Sliced Brisket, Steak Kabobs, ABT's, MOINKS, Chicken Wings, and of course bloody mary bar, beer, whiskey, brandy, vodka and gin. And as far tailgating for a real team.....AHhhhem

Strychnine-laced meatballs! J/K. I'm just jealous of your high octane team. After 38 years as a Vikings fan I wish I had a team worth fretting about for tailgate fare. I would smoke chicken wings with a nice rub and apple wood. Last 15 minutes toss wings in a sauce of 1/3 melted butter, 1/3 honey, 1/3 Siracha sauce. Put back on grill to set sauce.

I'd think pig shots would go over really well. Pig shots, pig skin....

I would think that for Packer fans some cheap skinless wieners and canned beans should suffice. Ha!

Thanks for the suggestions! In thinking the ADTs and either some wings or thighs, depends what is on sale.
BTW I think I'm gonna get one of those handles! I just scored a brand new Smokey Joe Platinum from Craigslist that should get shipped in time for the game. Maybe I can get a handle in too. |

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'm gonna try the ADTs with either thighs or wings depending what's cheap when I go to the store. Ive never done wings so if I do I'll try the technique above. I have done thighs before on my performer that turned out great but was wondering what some of your techniques for bone in thighs.
On a separate note, I scored a Weber Smokey Joe Platinum on craigs list today! Brand new in box. Seller said he bought it 5 years ago and never got around to using it. $70 shipped and should arrive Friday! It should be perfect for the tailgate. I may even pick up one if those Packer handles, that would look good on the SJP at the game. |
