Weber Roadside Find

My girlfriend called me up to tell me that she saw what she thought was a Weber on the side of the road. "Pick it up" I said. "But I'm dressed in white" she says. "And how do I know if it's being thrown out or if someone wants it?"

Well, this went on for a bit and she promised if it was still there when she went by later she would stop. It was there, and someone was out so she checked to make sure it was being thrown out. The guy told her it was "junk" and she could have it. Well, it was a lot nicer than I thought it would be. It appears that the legs were trashed and they stuck it in the frame of an old patio table. I plan on getting a set of replacement legs and with a quick cleaning it will be good as new. I am a little puzzled by the handles though. I am guessing that this was originally set in a table, but if that is the case why would there be the leg mount brackets on the bottom? Anyone familiar with this model? It looks like my One Touch but it doesn't have the hook in the lid or the metal rod on the outside so there is no way to hang the lid when you take it off.

It is in amazing shape -- no rust and the enamel finish is near mint. Yes, I already have 2 complete kettles and one donor that will be used on my next UDS, but who can turn down a freebie Weber?

That appears to be a Performer Kettle. My new Performer still has the leg brackets on it.

There is no date stamped on the vent. It appears to be a relatively new model, not an old classic. It really seems like it's only a couple of years old. But does anyone know about the strange brackets on the side instead of handles? Was it supposed to sit in a table? I am planing on building a cart for my UDS and now I'm thinking I should drop this in next to the UDS.

Yes, Performers did still have leg sockets, I believe. So, it looks like it most likely came from a Performer, which would explain the missing legs and the extra brackets.

Build a table for it, or add legs. Either way, you have a nice, cheap Weber. I'd be inclined to build it into a table.

My guess would be a Platinum. At least from the pics I do not see the gas pipe that a performer would have. However, as others have stated, it definitely is one or the other due to the side brackets. Here are some pics from the cart build I did with a donor Performer. You can see the gas line and the leg sockets.

I think it looks cool in the patio table/stand. You might want to do somehting about the table legs where the touch the bowl - either rivet/bolt as suggested or put some kind of barrier between the bowl and the legs so that the legs don't damage the finish on the bowl. The brackets on the side show that it is either from a performer or a one touch platnium. The handle on the lid is a newer handle - are you sure there is no double letter date stamp on the vent damper of the lid? Look for two capital letters.

Great find, in great condition too. Oh, and great girtlfriend as well. Lucky farker!

By the looks of that I would say it is off of a platinum, because platinum did not have the thermometer below the top lid handle and the performers did. That is the only difference besides the gas line hole through the lower section of the grill
