Default Kettle fire ring

I came up with this a couple weeks ago. Took the fire ring out of the WSM and set it in the kettle. Fill the outside with coals. It works great for a lot of things.

Cool, that looks great, I'll have to try that. Of course, I don't have a WSM to rob the ring from so I'll need to borrow yours. I'm thinking rather than have parts here and there, it would be better to keep it all together so I'll just take the whole WSM. I'll PM you my shipping address :)

landarc posted one using a cast iron skillet, 12" I believe. It's not quite a circle but I tried it for a brisket flat and it worked really well.

Do any do you guys doing the ring of fire use an automatic temperature controller? If so, where you put the fan doesn't get ashes falling into it?
