My dad is a bricklayer and has pallet after pallet of bricks and block. Do brick smokers hold heat well? I was thinking of building a vertical smoker out of brick using the UDS layout with a charcoal basket or even a cabinet smoker layout like this:

I dont think it would be too difficult or expensive since I will have most of the material for free. Any opinions? I figured I could seal it up and use my temp controller just like I do on my UDS.
It seems like most of the people that build brick smokers like to use offset smoker layouts and not vertical.
