Default Judged my first comp!

I have been cooking kcbs comps this year. I have gotten a few calls but I felt like my scores were really low. So I thought I am going to judge. Chicken had two good pieces out of 6 one was lighter fluid soaked really bad. Ribs 4 out of the 6 pretty good everything married well together.Pork all 6 were good. Brisket wow I was amazed I have never tasted other comp teams brisket till now. One had a very slight beef flavor the rest no beef flavor at all and the had a funky taste to them don't what it was but something wierd with all of them. So on my drive home I anylized mine to what I tasted well can't blame myself for not being able to cook just need to land on the right table of judges and hope I am scored for my hard work. I guess though If it was easy everyone would be doing it.

Do you want to be scored for your hard work, or how good it actually was? Every team works hard.

Glad you had a good experience and learned a thing or two.

That's the whole idea.

Everyone works hard no matter what they are doing with a contest.

That funky taste on the brisket was Fab, Butcher, or Kosmo's.
You got to love better BBQ through chemistry. Go phosphates!

Glad I never got any meat tasting like lighter fluid. That must taste nasty.

Odds are it was creosote or possibly a sauce containing spirits, not lighter fluid.

Many people can't tell the difference.

I've discovered that if you spray / mist with more than 30% JD mixed with AJ you won't be happy .
