Default A Weekend Comp...

A friend & I competed at a local Traeger Dealer's competition this past weekend. They invited 10 teams to compete. Voting was by people's choice so we had to be on our best behavior. They provided a bag of pellets, 2 slabs of Baby Backs and 1 Pork Loin. We did the BB's straight up. We butterflied the loin and added pizza ingredients (sausage, pepperoni, onions, bell pepper, mozzarella cheese and Italian Seasoning). Rolled it up. Stitched it up with butcher's string and dusted it with more Italian Seasoning. Cooked it @ 275F until 145F IT and then foiled/toweled and into the cooler until serving time. Darn thing got to 145F in 1 hour & 45 minutes. We also had ~80 MOINK Balls and a big pan of baked beans. We ran out of food before half of the visitors had a sample. I guess the talk about the Pork Loin Pizza Roll & MOINK Balls spread pretty fast. Another competitor (obviously not a Brethren) came over afterwards & said. "What the He!! is a MOINK Ball!". Seems the visitors were spreading the word all over. Anyway, I explained it to him and he couldn't believe something so simple could be such a hit.

We ended up winning a new Traeger Lil' Tex Elite. My partner has 2 Traegers already so we agreed it would be mine. Actually we agreed how we would divvy up our winnings before the comp just to eliminate any confusion. He would have received the prizes for 2nd, 3rd or 4th had we placed there. I did make it right for him anyway with a gift certificate from the Traeger Dealer.

All in all it was a great time. We've cooked for a lot of people but this was the first comp. of sorts.

There was over 200 visitors and the dealer sold 12 Traegers and a bunch of supplies.

I have to give credit to the fine folks here on the BBQ Brethren for the Pork Loin Pizza Roll and MOINK Ball ideas. We knew we needed something unique to set us apart. These definitely did it!

Here are a couple pics. Sorry, we were so focused on everything we forgot to snap pics of the food & etc... Cheers!!!

Our setup....

The award & Traeger....
