Hey, I just wanted to put a plug in for the chamber of commerce folks down at Lake Okoboji, Iowa. We entered their competition earlier this year and took third in a couple catagories this last weekend. Had a great time, met a number of other brethren and it was held right on the lake so the view was outstanding the entire weekend. They are seeking KCBS sanctioning for next year so we are definately going back again. The staff was great to work with and they had it setup just as nice as a lot of other sponsered comps we have been too. You would have never guessed it was their first year doing this. Here a link to the local paper and some coverage they gave the teams.

Had the locals kill off thirty lbs of pork shoulder, thirty pounds of loin, all our remaining chicken, five slabs of ribs, and thirty five lbs of pulled pork in about 35 minutes. My famous black gloves are in the photo.;> ![]() Putting the magic glaze on the ribs. ![]() Be sure to sign up with Stacy, next year at the tourism office. Cuter than all get out too. info: http://www.vacationokoboji.com/event...Q-Contest.aspx

Looks great! Iowa can always use another sanctioned contest. The fact that the organizer is going to pursue sanctioning says a great deal about the support he/she has from the community and their organization.
My bbq wish would be, all midwest BBQ organizers get together in a room and lay out a schedule where contests won't interfere with other contests. This year there were some tough decisions that had to be made by BBQ teams in regards to where to go. It is hard to choose one place over another when moving the contest by a week could have meant having a full slate of teams. Let's hope for the best and do our best to encourage and support contests like the one you attended.

BJ,
I totally agree with you. With our short season up here its hard to pick which location you want to attend. I think we saw you guys up at Fairbault to but did not get a chance to drop in and say hello. I laughed out loud when I saw your great team name on the trailer. Always great to meet another brethren member at these too. If you see us smokin, someplace be sure to drop over and say hello!

Seems that I heard some jack @$$ was throwing a fit because of power going out and sprinklers going on by him. It may just be a nasty rumor but I here he was mainly biatching about his chicken and ribs being ruined then got a 3rd place call in chicken and 1st in ribs. He also finished DAL in brisket. Like I say these are just rumors I am hearing.
I will have that beer with you next time, and your banner is so cool I gotta get one.

Nothing could be better than a BBQ comp in Okoboji! Had it not been the same weekend as Frisco, I would have been there. Me and my wife grew up there and we get back as often as possible. In fact, we're going to be back there the first week in August. I hope they go for KCBS sanctioning for next year.
I'm a proud graduate of the University of Okoboji!
