Default Need to put the "D" in mini UDS...

So, the bug has bitten. I am finally setting out to do something with the wood-handled 18.5 Weber kettle lid I picked up at an estate sale for $1 last year.

The only problem is that it won't shape up to be much unless I can get a drum. The source for my last 55gallon drum has now moved from being 10 away from my house to now being 1hr away. I called another place and they wanted $112 for a 30 gallon drum . Checked Craigslist and nothing came up.

Do any Houston-area brethren have any sources for a 30gallon drum that they would be willing to share??

Thanks!

I might be able to find one from my supplier for probably 15-20 bucks if they have one, but you would have to come get it or pay for shipping. Make a weekend of it go eat some Q down here but dam SXSW is going on down here it's a farkin mad house brotha.

That's mighty decent of you. Thanks! .

If its not too much trouble, could you find out how shipping would cost? I might not be able to get to Austin for a couple of months. If I do ask you to get one for me, do you have an 18.5" Weber lid that you could take along to confirm the fit? I know this is plenty to ask, but maybe I could throw in some brewskies for your trouble?

I'll let you know if nothing turns up closer to home. And I can only imagine what a zoo SXSW is creating up there. Sounds like a good reason to hang at home and 'cue!

BTW, how is your MUDS project coming along? It was your thread recently that inspired me.

Thanks again!

I don't have a lid but I can take the exact measurements of it, I can check out pricing for shipment brotha shouldn't be that bad the 30 gallon drum shouldn't weigh that much and will probably fit in a box. My MINI UDS is done I've been working on a semi helpful guide to upload to youtube but it keep's going out of sync man so I haven't posted it yet. I also drilled a little to far using the step down bit for the 3/4 nipple I had to use JB weld to fix mt f up . Ill check on the drum Friday I have my nephew tomorrow taking him to the movies.

Looks good. Is that a 16gallon drum MUDS? For some reason I was going to use 1/2" nipples and ball valve. Not sure I have a good reason for doing so, just thought they should be smaller than the 3/4" nipples for my UDS. Have you cooked with it yet?

Have fun with your nephew (mine yakked after eating too much popcorn the last time I took him to the movies!)

Thx brotha,I'm not really sure the size but the smoky joe lid fits it good, I just used 3/4 I'm sure smaller ones won't hurt the little guy I just want to use my digiq on it for some cooks. I haven't cooked on it yet but I'm probably going to use it for abtz, butts and beer can chickens. The place I get my drums said they never get 14-16 gallon drums but when I went out there last week they had three of them for ten bucks each I had to have it. The place is right down the street from me so on Friday I'll look for a 30 gal for you I was working in Houston last week and thought I was going to get more work but I haven't heard back from the guy if I get more work and they do have a 30 gal drum I'll take it with me and you can just meet up with me at a Lowes where I do column repair in the garden center. Ya my nephew loves popcorn man he can eat it all day were going to see lorax or John carter on a imax screen it's going to fun he's autistic so I have to bring his own popcorn saves me money and I get to eat it too ;)

There is a guy that's downtown that I bought mine from that advertised on craigslist, but I don't see any listing anymore. Here are my search results-sift through these and you will find a few.

Knight: What's the number of the guy who hired you in Houston? I'll call him up and tell him to get you back on the job, so I can get my drum! Let me know if you do come by this way.

AlanTX: Thanks for the info. Seems like I got more hits when I finally spelled barrel correctly . 30 gallon drums are available in Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Beaumont... but not in Houston??? Arrrghhh.

I may have to do that. My neighbors already hate me - lots of smoke from 'cue and my wfo... they might go ape-chit if I burned a pallet in a drum. And yes, I've already taken over peace offerings of 'cue - they looked at it kind of funny.

Sorry to hear that, bro (not because of the drum).
