Question FAQ: Are multiple entries allowed in the Throwdowns?

Every now and then this question comes up. I would like to share the most recent one, and my reply. I thought it would be a good idea to share it with everyone so this info is out there, and can be bumped when needed....

Not a stupid question at all. I get this question from time to time, and it is always a little bit complicated to answer. I give the reason why this is complicated a little further below.

Some TD's allow multiple entries, others do not.

Pretty much every standard weekly TD does not allow multiple entries as per the following rule (may be worded differently today than back when this post was created)...
5. Only one picture from one dish will be used for voting, so please specify which one you want used, otherwise I will choose and my decision will be final.

However, in the SPECIAL Throwdowns, I almost always allow multiple entries, and therefore usually state so explicitly in the OP of the Special TD to make it clear that multiple entries are accepted. For example, in the "Good vs. Evil" Throwdown, I put this in the OP...
You can also submit multiple entries, since people eat multiple meals in the day, and since there are multiple meatless Fridays during Lent.
Now for the reason why some allow multiple entries and others don't.

When the TD's first started, multiple entries were not prohibited. Some folks (particularly RTD) enjoyed submitting multiple entries.

At some point, some folks actually started complaining that multiple entries gave a person a better chance of winning. Some people even posted that they had never entered a TD, but wanted to enter, and the only reason they were not entering was because they did not have time to make multiple entries, and felt they were at a disadvantage if they made only one entry.

So I put up a poll asking how people felt about multiple entries. It had a few options, so folks could indicate how strongly they felt towards allowing or disallowing multiple entries. The only folks who felt strongly about it were the ones who did NOT want multiple entries, and everyone who was OK with multiple entries said they would still participate even if they could only enter once.

So, based on the results, I made that new rule, which is now Rule #5 stating that each person can make only one entry.

However, since I was personally a fan of multiple entries, and since I was the moderator, I made sure to still allow multiple entries by making them allowable in the SPECIAL Throwdowns.

Now you know everything about multiple entries. Probably more than you wanted to know...but now you know.
