Default The 26-3/4" Smoke-EZ - this thing is huge!!!

I added a new weapon to my BBQ arsenal today, an extension ring for my 26-3/4" Weber Kettle. I saw the add for The Smoke-EZ in this month's KCBS newsletter, The Bullsheet, and called to order mine on Tuesday morning. It was on my porch on Friday morning! A couple of quick mods and this thing is ready to go. The cooking capacity is just incredible!

Here it is.

To give you an idea just how big it is, I brought over my Large BGE for comparison.

The Smoke-EZ comes with a heavy duty stainless steel fire ring that sits on the charcoal grate. You can set up a circle of coal on the outside, or load up the inside, your choice.

It also comes with a heavy gauge stainless bowl for water, sand, or just to catch the drippings, depending on how you use it. I'll try sitting mine inside the ring and load my coals around the outside. I'll fill the bowl with water and maybe toss in some aromatics for good measure.

The first thing I did was install a Guru adaptor on the Kettle, to make sure I'll maintain accurate temps on long cooks.

Then some angle brackets to give me some more flexibility in grate height.

The top grate will be 20" above the charcoal grate. I added a bracket so the next lower grate will be 6" below that, or 14" above. The lowest bracket is another 4" below that.

A hook inside the dome allows me to hang it on the side while I'm working inside.

The Smoke-EZ also comes with a really neat rack that fits on the grate supports and lets you hang fish, sausage, or just about anything else you can think of.

I'm back on the road for work tomorrow, so I won't get to fire her up and run her through her paces until next weekend. I'll report back on the performance as soon as I can.

That is freakin awesome set up, I take it they have that for 22" also? I have been thinking about a smoker conversion off an on for awhile and I really like that. It's gonna work like a million bucks, I'm sure!

Very cool. I checked their website but didn't see a ton of info or pricing guides. Any more info you can share from your interaction with them?

I called and talked to Buddy Foster, the President of Smoke-EZ. He was extremely helpful and seems like a really nice guy! The 26-3/4" model is $250, and it was about $46 for shipping. I don't know what the 22.5" model costs.

Looks great, how's the height? How tall are you and is it difficult to work in since it raises up the opening a bit?

I'm about 6'3", and it seems to be OK, but I'll cook on it a few times before I decide whether I need to take an inch or two from the legs. I'd rather not, because I want to be able to remove the ring and grill comfortably from time to time.
