Default Upsidedown Box Rule

In the agenda for the Jan 13 KCBS board meeting

"On rule number 14 we have no consequences or procedure in the rules on what to do if a container is turned in with the number on the bottom of the container.
Open for discussion and recommend Rep Committee issue an advisory for all reps to follow so that all Reps handle this situation in the same manner.
Advisory February 17, 2006: 1. The KCBS Rep should caution the contestant to turn in next time with the number on top. 2. You may advise the contestant that they have whatever time remaining on the Official Clock to correct the violation, or 3. The KCBS Rep or persons accepting samples could place a blank label over the number on the bottom and put the alternate number on the top of the box."

Any contest I have been to where this was discussed the expectation is that if you turned in upside down the box would be turned over so the number was on top or the team could try to fix it within the time limit. How could an upside down box ever even be thought to be presented to judges per #3 above? How much more clear could a marked box be than upside down?

Do upside down boxes really get turned in this way?

I've seen a few flipped boxes when I've worked turn ins. They've always been stickered and the number rewritten on the up side, then the blind number placed over that and sent to the table. Most of the time I don't think it's that big of a deal since most clam shells are fairly symmetrical.

A good KCBS rep will tell you on Friday that if you turn in your box with the number on the bottom, they will turn it over so that the number is on top.
