I received an ET 732 for Christmas, and would like to know if any of the brethren have had any problems due to running the probe wires under the lid of a WSM. TIA

Unknown, sounds like something a small hole and some high-temp silicone would fix.

I had used a probe for about twenty cooks and it went bad...not sure why.
Does anyone know a good Brethren friendly source for replacement probes.

Be careful when putting the wire under the lid it could damage the jacket. It is best to drill a hole and use a rubber gromet.
FYI: MAVERICK is out of stock on the probes till later in January.

Wrap the probe with a little foil where it goes under the lid. I haven't damaged a probe doing that. And I was gonna suggest 5-0 BBQ too but others beat me to it. Big Poppa's BBQ also has them and he's a member as well.

I always run mine through the small holes with the door handle down through the door. Been doing it this way for a few years now and my probes work fine. I do have the earlier ET-73 version. I really want to upgrade the the 732. How is the range on the new one?

I suggest going to the Virtualweberbullet website and check out the modification section. The most common method for running probes into the WSM is by drilling a hole thru the unit and using a hollow lamp rod. Cost less than $5 to do. You will need some basic tools to do the job - drill, drill bit (nothing fancy needed), tape. It took me less than 30 minutes to do the modification.

I go through a hole in the side of my drums and lay them across the gasket in my Eggs. A piece of foil will make clean-up easier. I also store all my cables in a large coil instead of a tight coil. I have two older woven probes that have lasted 6 years or so.
You will like the convenience of the 732 for all night cooks. The receiver can hang out right on the night stand.... ![]()
