Makes the food less appealing, but I wonder if it would be legal, I'm painting my money muscle so it looks like gold coins.

Exactly, what does a judge do when he has golden "coins" of barbecue (possibly) presented in front of him/her? Holy Fark!!!

Sorry, I know this is bizarre for a competition barbecue topic, but in competition barbecue, what would you do with this? I mean... that chicken above, to me, looks like a piece of something in a display and NOT a food item at all (ala. my opinion of the little red balls of luv disguised as chicken we now see, but that's another story altogether).

<argh>

Sorry for the Guerry signature; it's apparently "Be Like Guerry" day today.

if they make it in a nice golden brown, I can see applications, maybe a mist of red to add a little more color to that pasty smoked chicken that didn't quite color up right, maybe a mist of black to clean up the slices of brisket, or perhaps a light mist of red to enhance that smoke ring that nobody is supposed to be judging on, even though everyone does.

So if you used this on the greenery is it legal??? Its still Parsley?

Better get a ruling before next season, someone will roll with this...hehehe

Didn't Clark Griswold come up with something like this? Oh wait, that was a non-nutritive cereal varnish, not a spray paint!

I've never judged, but unless I was made specifically aware that the chicken was turned gold by edible spray paint, then I think I would have to deem it inedible.

9) Meat shall not be sculptured, branded or presented in a
way to make it identifiable. Rosettes of meat slices are not
allowed. Violations of this rule will be scored a one (1) on all
criteria by all six judges

So using it on the meat is out...

12) Garnish is optional. If used, it is limited to chopped,
sliced, shredded or whole leaves of fresh green lettuce,
curly parsley, flat leaf parsley and/or cilantro. Kale, endive,
red tipped lettuce, lettuce cores and other vegetation are
prohibited. Improper garnish shall receive a score of one (1)
on Appearance.

BUT, it can be used legally on garnish...

I love loopholes

I dunno sauced. I've seen quite a bit of meat come over the table in arrangements that are VERY unique (ala. identifiable) that didn't get DQ'd... This rule hasn't been enforced very strictly, IMHO.

But, yeah, golden garnish. Or, if the garnish isn't green enuff, spray it a little... Racing stripes perhaps!
