Check out these results from this past weekend. 75 team contest.
3 out of 4 KCBS meat categories with a 180! I had the pleasure of serving as table captain at the table that had the 180 rib. There were 12 ribs in the box so I got to try one. All I can say is WOW! At the time I tried it I knew it would score well, but did not know it would be a 180. It was definitely one of the best ribs I have had. That team put 12 St. Louis spares in the box; 6 on 6 on parsley. By the way, the judge organizer for the contest made the effort to evenly distribute the judges; there were 2 master judges, 2 novice (less experienced) judges, and 2 experienced but not master judges at each table; 14 tables. Chicken: 1. Bean Bandits - 180.0000 2. Little Bit of R & R - 177.7142 3. South Pork - 177.7142 4. Cancersuckschicago.com - 177.7142 Ribs: 1. Warren CountyPorkChopper - 180.0000 2. Wolfcreek BBQ - 174.8574 3. Piggin' & Grinnin' - 174.2860 4. JC's Pit Crew - 174.2856 Pork: 1. Warren CountyPorkChopper - 177.1428 2. Forever Wild Cooking Tea - 176.5714 3. Lotta Bull BBQ - 176.5714 4. Team Top Chick - 175.4286 Brisket: 1. Bub-Ba-Q - 180.0000 2. Jiggy Piggy - 176.5714 3. Lotta Bull BBQ - 175.4286 4. Smoke of the Shoals - 174.8572 5. House of Q - 174.8570 Overall: 1. Jiggy Piggy - 693.1428 2. Warren CountyPorkChopper - 691.9994 3. Bub-Ba-Q - 691.4282 4. Team Top Chick - 687.9998 5. Cancersuckschicago.com - 686.2852

Whoa, cool! Interesting that the over all first place was only in the top four in any category and only second at that. Wish I could've been there! Well, there WILL be next year. Congrats to all who walked!

That can't be right I didn't see Jack's Old South in the top 5. Was it a real contest?

Since we are talking scores...anyone think that the scores have crept back up this season. Seeing a lot more 180's this year than the past couple of years since the switch to starting at 6. Certainly folks are getting better at cooking, but scores that would always get you in the top 10 are now leaving you on the outside looking in.
used to a 169 could win a category, now it doesnt even get called some weekends. |
