As a first year contest organizer, I am looking for some free entertainment/vendors. For example, some of the national councils may bring a trailer with things for attendees to do. Maybe some of the businesses associated with barbeque would be willing to bring activities for attendees to do. We have the bands and kids activities already down for the attendees to do, but looking for more. For experienced contest organizers, what have you done to bring in vendors?

Offer local restaurants the opportunity to do demos for the public and tout their restaurant.
Sell space to local companies that do carnivals, but limit them on what they can set up (simple rides). Use part of your space to host a classic car show. Put an ad in craigslist looking for bands that will play for free. Have a component of your comp that the public can enter. Pies, cakes, cookies and jams are all good choices. Those things usually help to draw a crowd. Eric

I am not an experienced contest organizer, but I was amazed at the drawing power of this event a couple of weeks ago - it brought people in from all over the nation . . .
http://www.lawrencebuskerfest.com/ You might consider something similar to draw people to your competition. Just a thought for you -
