1st Competition Tomorrow

Hey Brethren,
I am competing in my first competition tomorrow, wish me luck.
Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Have to do:

BB Ribs
Chicken (any part) Im doin thighs
Best Burger
and a pork loin for peoples choice

Good luck! Best tip I can offer is "have fun"...and "relax"...it's just cookin' meat!

Just kidding. Make sure you get things started on time so they will finish on time. A rest period is better than finishing late/having to rush. Having fun is a given. I'm sure you will as it is about impossible not to. We didn't really have goals our first time out other than making sure things were turned in on time and didn't burn the place down.

If it's anything like our comps, you'll get PLENTY of excellent advice and help from your fellow competitors! I was amazed at how helpful the people you're COMPETING against can be!

Like almorst everyone said. HAVE FUN. Remember why you do this.
But do make a list with your times. I build in an extra 30 mins at least.
If your rib turn in is at 1, you cook for 6 hours, they go on at 6:30 and you start your fire at 6:00 AM. Or whatever times work for you. You get the idea.

what Chad says - last year I met Dusty Roads in Parsons, KS and learned a helluva lot about blues musicians . . .

Since Dusty is also a minimalist when it comes to his cooking equipment, we also compared a lot of notes about how we had everything set up.

The key is "Having Fun & Meeting People". You will never meet a nicer or more helpful group of competitors than at a BBQ Competition.
