Default pork butt and ribs take 2

Tomorrow I will attempt to smoke pork butt and ribs again. I have read and learned a lot here. Yet I still need and rub that will be sweet with a little heat to it. Any advice?

Make your own using salt, brown sugar, black pepper, white pepper, red pepper, paprika, cumin, and garlic OR if you like it sweet with a little heat try some of 3Eyez awesome rub or some Smokin' Guns Hot.

Look for a rub with a lot of sugar and add cayenne pepper to taste.

Try substituting some of your paprika with a hot paprika.

Any one rub recipe you guys can recommend? I come from a baking background so coming up with my own rub from scratch is something I am not very comfortable with. I have all the spices, herbs and sugars on hand. Missing the know-how and recipe.

I use 1/2 3EYZ and 1/2 Dizzy Pig. Add cayenne on naked ribs.

Here is a good base for a rub. It's a variation of Chris Lilly's pork rub. Just add more cayenne pepper and white pepper to taste for more heat.

1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 cup paprika
1/3 cup garlic salt
2 tablespoons onion salt
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 1/2 teaspoons white pepper
1 teaspoon cumin

If you want a commercially available rub that my family loves: McCormick's Sweet n Spicy along with the Pork and Applewood rub mixed 2/1/1 and rubbed all over everything and marinated over night and then smoke it however you do it! mmmmm mmmmm good

Also inject the butts with apple juice/apple cider and mix in your rub. Low and slow slow slow.

Since tomorrow is the cook day, I would use Boshizzle recipe. Way way way to late to change things now. Good luck!
