BBQ Team Name...

What happens if you go to a competition and somebody already has the same BBQ team name? I take it there is no database of all team names that have been used. I would like to do a competition someday and I have a team name, but not sure if someone else has the same name. Do you register on KCBS site somewhere?

I would hate to have a banner all made up only to find out when I get there, some other team has already registered for the event with the same name...

I have not seen this before. Is this something that someone compiled based on competitions they have been to?

The list is from someone at "The BBQ Forum". That is all I know about it.

Thanks for that link as well...haven't seen that one either.

I guess if the team name I have is not on either of those lists, would it be safe to assume nobody else would have it?

Not necessarily. There are a lot of teams out there that are not on either of those. You could post the name and see if anyone has heard of some one using it. Also google the name and see if anything comes up.

You could also just add your city &/or state to the end of it. There are many teams that have the same names that do that. ex. Up In Smoke I can think of at least 3 teams with this name.

And . . . just like domain names, unless you've registered your 'trade mark' with your secretary of state's office, simply registering your team name at either of these sites does not prevent anyone from using it, except by 'gentleman's agreement'.
