Maverick ET-73 Wireless Temp Gauge

First smoke and thumbs up. The remote sensor has min and max alerts for the smoker chamber and max alerts for the meat.

The sending unit at the smoker has a display and it alternates between the meat temp and the smoker chamber temp.

This is well worth the $39.99 plus shipping.

Glad to hear it. I just bought one today ($49.99, but I just couldn't help it). Gonna try it tomorrow. Is it a pretty accurate unit?

Thanls for the experiences with your thermometers. The only Maverick I have is a non wireless and it is off by at least 10%.

I phoned Maverick for a replacement. I had to contact Maverick with 8 Emails after they told me they would send me a new unit. My ET-73 would not work if I moved it more then ten feet from the sending unit. It was brand new. It took almost two months of asking them to please send my replacement.
The new one works well and I love it!!!
They made a bad batch back in May of 04.

Interesting, Glen... I have a similar problem with my Maverick. I have a Radio Shack wireless thermometer that my wife bought for Father's Day a coupl eof years ago, and it works great. I've taken the remote unit all over the house and into the garage (about as far from the deck as I can get) and it never looses the signal. My Maverick will loose the signal sitting on my kitchen counter, about 20 feet from the grill/smoker area, and it will also loose the signal sitting in the family room next the "my chair". In this spot, it is no more than 8 feet from the smoker, but it is going through the aluminum siding.

So... Thinking that the problem was the Maverick, I bought a Nu-Temp. I'm using it today for the first time, and it is having the same problem as the Maverick! On the Nu-Temp, it supports three remotes, and I have two in use, and the base keeps using signal with the remotes keep switching channels. It makes it impossible to set an alarm when the probe that is in the meat is on channel 1 for a while, then on channel 2 for a while, then on channel 3 for a while...

I'm now suspecting that something else in the house is interfering with the remote thermometer. I have no idea what itis, but I'm going to figure it out!

My house has cinder block walls and no problems with the signal.

I also have found there is a big difference in range with a fresh set of batteries.
you should be getting at least 40-50 feet no problem with your ET-73.
Look up their phone number on their site if you like and give them a call.
ask nicely and be persistant and they will sent you a new one for free.
I did not have to send mine in, so now I have two of them :)

Yep... I tried brand new battereis in both the Maverick and the Nu-Temp without much luck. We have a Oregon Scientific Wireless weather center that may be causing some interference. I'm going to take the battereis out of the remote for the weather center to see if it makes a difference.

That's me on the BBQ list. I'm mainly a lurker on the list, but I've posted a few times...
