This is a KCBS sanctioned, Illinois State Championship cook off. Teams may set up Friday, July 1, 2011 starting at 7am. Water, power, and ice will be on site. There is no set space size because everyone has a different setup. The cooks meeting will be at 7pm Friday evening at the judges tent. Quiet time will be at 11pm Friday night. Judging will begin Saturday, July 2, at 12pm. Teams may stay overnight Saturday after the event if they would like, as we will have other activities planned for after the cook off. Teams must check out by 11am on Sunday, July 3, 2011. Contest entry is only $150!!! Check out our website for more info. I've listed some helpful links below.

Did you delete the list of teams that were already signed up? I thought you had it on the website? Anyway, looking forward to it, I'm having fun in my first year of doing this and it looks like you've attracted some really good teams to Rend Lake!

Yeah, a few of the teams I had listed had told me they were coming but when I called them because I had not yet received their entry they told me they were not coming. So I decided to take it down and just keep track of how many actually have paid to keep it simple. I want to make sure it's a qualifier so knowing for sure how many teams there are is important. But I'm looking forward to seeing you guys.

South Marcum is the closest campground, I checked on all the reservable sites a few weeks ago and they were booked, there are two areas that are first come first serve in South Marcum, but I expect they will fill up pretty quick with it being a holiday weekend. I'm planning on taking my camper over there on Tuesday to try to get a decent spot. I usually camp at Wayne Fitzgeralld on the north side of the lake and I know it fills up really fast on holidays.

Whittington Woods is a really nice campground just north of the contest. It is a great facility run by really accommodating people, that's where I always stay when I am in the area. There is a very good winery nearby (Pheasant Hollow)

There might be one in the area that closed, but I am sure Whittington Woods is open. We have reservations there for the weekend of the contest since I'm going to be judging.

They re-opened it, as far as the other campground, never even thought about that one, I like being on the lake. I drove through South Marcum the other day and I like the improvements, plus new shower houses, and other things. I've had the boat out a couple times this year and the campground has looked pretty full from party cove.

Yeah, all the campgrounds have been renovated and their open this season. I linked the page on our site that has all the lodging and campgrounds there. They are all pretty close and Whittington Woods would be my choice if the lake campgrounds are full.
