Thanks. First to anyone that is scouring craigslist and has a smartphone, there are some good apps that will constantly search for keywords and notify you when something pops up. I use this app on my android phone and it works well. I have it constantly looking for "Weber" and "Smoker" among other things. It also helped me score a 22.5" kettle earlier this week for $20.

Now to the good stuff, I finally got it home and had a chance to snap some pics with my phone. It definitely needs some TLC to get it back in shape. Most of the insides of the firebox and cook chamber have considerable rust. It was obviously neglected for quite a while. I don't see anywhere where it is rusted through though and I think there is still a good amount of metal under the rust.

I plan to vacuum out all the chunks and then hit it with a power washer to knock off the rest of the loose stuff. Then take a wire wheel, grinder and such to get it down to bare metal. Any other tips or suggestions? I am definitely open to any ideas or experience with restorations of this sort.

They also gave me a little firebox thing. I am not sure what it went on previously but I was happy to take it. Its good thick metal and a heavy little farker. I figure at worst, it can be attached to a pipe or small compressor tank for a decent backyard offset.

Here is the firebox. Its got quite a bit of flaking rust. I fear the metal might be thinning too much but I will have to see once its clean.

The outside has some rust but should clean up easily. Removing the ash pan was a chore as it was quite corroded and stuck in there pretty good.

The racks are in decent shape but definitely show neglect and rust. You can also see where some of the rust has flaked off in the cook chamber.

Here is the little firebox. Its not that big but would probably work for a smaller backyard offset.

That is the best CL score ever!!! Have fun with the re-furb and cooking on that Bad Boy!! If you need any replacement parts, and it looks like the intake spinners are missing, here is the manufacturers web site. Just watch out for the dang talking Cowboy!

http://www.aceofheartsbbq.com/patiosmokers.html

I just got my Rodeo, new name for the 42, 3 weeks ago. The thing cooks like a dream, holds temp extremely well and has PLENTY of rack space.

If you have any questions just send me a PM and I'll do my best for ya.
